Students can undertake their Tap Dance examinations marked by a visiting examiner from the society, who has been recruited and trained by the ISTD. The school is privileged to hold its own examination sessions throughout the year and has visiting examiners from across the country to mark the students.

Children from aged 5 and above are eligible to train in Modern Theatre, beginning at Primary level. The graded system builds up progressively ensuring that the steps and skills that are first explored and learned at the lower levels, prepare students for the more complex movements at higher levels.

Our Tap Dance classes at the school are highly popular as students gain a real sense of achievement from the sounds and rhythmic patterns they create with their feet. Classes are designed to follow clear objectives to promote a core sense of line, quality of movement, rhythmicality, creative use of rhythmic awareness and tap technique, use of space and a dynamic performance. As students reach vocational level students will display grounded expertise and mastery of technique and awareness, which will offer the underpinning for professional employment as a dancer or further training as a dance teacher; should they wish to pursue a professional career.

Classes run between 30 and 45 minutes once a week.

To run alongside Modern Theatre class, students have the opportunity to attend our ‘Conditioning, Flexibility and Strengthening Class’ (CFS); designed to compliment and further assist in students’ progression and standard. Want to read more about our CFS class? Click here
